In order to implement at Nixa, we must consider four issues:  Curriculum, staffing/training, scheduling and cost.

We are considering 2 curriculums:  KiddyKeys class curriculum and Children's Musical Journey software.

KiddyKeys
Music discovery and piano exploration program which combines music, movement, school readiness and character education.

Nixa Preschool Piano Instruction - PD Session 2013

Beginning in the 1990s, many research projects have proven a direct causal relationship between music instruction, especially the piano, and improved academic outcomes.  Of particular note is the impact of piano instruction in preschoolers on spatial intelligence, the kind of intelligence required to understand higher level math and science.  Here's a great article about spatial intelligence:  http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=recognizing-spatial-intel

This is the Mozart Sonata K.448 that started it all:

Now, there is new research led by Dr. Nina Kraus from Northwestern University.  Two years of instrumental music instruction has now been linked to increased auditory processing capabilities with profound implications for reading instruction.  This research also holds great possibilities for children with ADHD, dyslexia and autism.
